Jo Wood reveals she wishes she took more snaps of The Rolling Stones in a new podcast

Jo Wood has voiced her regrets over her time spent with The Rolling Stones and admitted frontman Mick Jagger made her feel ‘uncomfortable’.  

Speaking on the new series of The Hot Mess Mums Club podcast, hosted by Jenny Powell and Kelly Pegg, Jo, 65, revealed details of touring with her ex-husband Ronnie Wood, 73, before splitting in 2011 following a 26-year marriage. 

On touring with the iconic rockers, she lamented not taking more pictures while also discussing taking their kids, Leah, 42, and Tyrone, 37, and her son Jamie, 46, from a previous marriage, around the world with the band. 

In the podcast, Jo admitted she wished she had taken more pictures of the band after Ronnie bought her a camera, saying: ‘Ronnie bought me my first polaroid when we moved to LA then he bought me my first camera in the 80s. 

‘I actually wish I had taken more pictures, because there were so many times, I wish I had taken more pictures of Mick, but he always made me feel so uncomfortable when I got my camera out…’

Host Jenny, who was in a three-year relationship with Take That star Jason Orange, said: ‘I used to feel like that with Gary Barlow.’

Mother-of-three Jo added: ‘So, I wish I had but mind you, Keith made up for that because, he would pose or anything, he was great, great guy.’

The former model also spoke about taking her children on tour with the band, adding that they ‘learned so much from travelling’ 

She said: ‘We weren’t allowed to bring the kids on tour, maybe because they were too young, and then in ’89 I missed my kids so much on the first leg of the tour and I said to Ronnie, ‘come on, it’s a kids’ holiday, let’s take the kids to Japan… 

‘Then after that all the kids started coming out, only in school holidays, but it was lovely because they learnt so much from travelling around the world, and learning about other cultures and it was great.’ 

The former Strictly Come Dancing star, revealed that she was put on steroids after being misdiagnosed with a serious illness, and has since been following a strictly organic lifestyle. 

She said: ‘I am a true believer in what you put in and on your body, is so very important, especially in this age where we have all these viruses. 

‘I really believe in eating fresh, non-genetically modified foods, eating organic, then it keeps your brain healthy, keeps you feeling good.’

She added: ‘What really made me turn away from the party lifestyles was, we were in Ireland, and I got ill and thought I had gotten food poisoning, and I went to see the doctor and went back to London and saw loads of doctors. 

‘They then misdiagnosed me with Crohn’s disease, and had put me on steroids, and I had this article come out in the paper that said, ‘STONES WIFE WITH INCURABLE DISEASE’.

‘I got hundreds of letters, and I sat on the floor and I sat there and went through them and loads of people were telling me about their Crohn’s disease.

‘Then one letter said, “I will put your Crohn’s disease into remission for life, if you come and see me and follow my diet and take my herbs”, so I got in my car, I drove to Hastings, his front door said ‘Shangri-La’ on it.

‘I walked in, and there was this old boy called Gerald Green and he was a herbalist. And he asked, “what do you eat” so I said, me and my sister love lean cuisine and I get McDonalds for the kids on a Friday and I do this and I do that. 

‘So, he told me about the food I was putting in my body, and in that afternoon at his house he changed the way I thought about food forever. So, I started weening myself off the steroids and using his diet over 4 months, and I felt better and better.’

Businesswoman Jo started dating builder Paul Scarborough after he renovated her North London townhouse in 2012, before they called it quits five years later.

She then fell for top rugby coach Carl Douglas in 2018 after meeting on the Telegraph’s dating site, but the couple ended their romance last year.

The Jo Wood Organics CEO said: ‘I do like my own company, I didn’t at first, when I was first single and moved into my place in Camden, I hated it being alone, but here, I just love being on my own. 

‘I can potter around, I can get up when I want, I can have a bath and lay in the bath for hours, I can just do things I want to do. 

‘I broke up with my boyfriend around 8 months ago, and I enjoyed being on my own. I hope that I can have a relationship with somebody and want to be with them all the time, but in the meantime, I have got a bit selfish. 

‘I never thought I would be like this because I was married to Ronnie for 31 years and then the kids left home, and it was like oh my god, what are we gonna do, and then I was on my own.’ 

Although enjoying being on her own, Jo has been told she has ‘set the bar too high’ by being married to a famous rock and roll star in the past.  

She said: ‘I have had guys say to me that I have set the bar too high by being an ex wife of someone from The Rolling Stones. I’ve had to say “I’m a normal girl I promise!” they are really scared of that.’

Host Jenny joked: ‘I mean mine’s not quite the same but I have had guys say to me ‘you went out with that guy who spun on his head from Take That’ and for a guy it takes a lot of confidence to match these things.’  

But the pair remain friendly and speak ‘a lot’, after they finally split for good in 2009, despite the relationship being strained at first. 

Jo said: ‘I talk to Ronnie quite a lot. When we first split up, he was weird with me even though he was the one who left me. So, I tried to encourage, because of the kids and grandkids, that we were friends, and we had so much history together. 

‘He was funny at first and would avoid me, but slowly he came around, maybe it was Sally that helped it come along. 

‘Every year I would ask him to pop in and then one year he finally said, “yeah me and Sally will pop in”. So now, it’s easy to pick up the phone and we ring each other any time we want so it’s important for our family and for all those memories.’
