She’s back! Jessica Alba set to return to action genre with leading role in Netflix film Trigger Warning

Netflix is taking another stab at the action film genre, only this time with Jessica Alba in the lead role.

The 39-year-old actress will star in Netflix’ s upcoming action-thriller Trigger Warning, according to Variety.

Indonesian filmmaker Mouly Surya, best known for her acclaimed work on Malina The Murderer In Four Acts, will direct the movie.

Josh Olson (A History Of Violence) and John Brancato (The Game) wrote the screenplay. 

Alba will also do double-duty as executive producer. 

In the film, Alba will play a traumatized veteran who inherits her grandfather’s bar after his untimely death, and is faced with a moral dilemma after discovering the truth behind his death.

Coming on the heels of the success of action flicks Extraction and Spenser Confidential, Netflix reportedly has high hopes for the film and consider it a potential franchise starter. 

Alba got her big break in the action genre in James Cameron’s Dark Angel television series, where she played the genetically engineered super-soldier, Max Guevara (2000-2002).

She went on to make waves in such films as Honey (2003), Sin City (2005), Fantastic Four (2005), Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007) and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014).

Most recently Alba stars alongside Gabrielle Union in the Spectrum Originals series LA’s Finest, which is a spinoff of Jerry Bruckheimer’s Bad Boys universe.

The crime drama was renewed for a second season in June 2019 that will premiere on June 8, 2020. 

The first season will air Mondays on Fox in Fall 2020 to fill in broadcast hours due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
