Inside Kate Langbroek’s Italian coronavirus lockdown in Bologna

Australian radio personality Kate Langbroek is currently in a coronavirus lockdown with her family of six inside their Italian home in the city of Bologna.

The 54-year-old revealed on Tuesday that they haven’t left their house for two days, as parts of Italy are under strict quarantine restrictions.

‘Home school. Day 2 of coronavirus lockdown,’ wrote Kate to Instagram on Tuesday, sharing footage of her four children studying inside the vast property.

Kate’s children appeared to be growing tired of being cooped up at home in the video, with daughter Sunday, 14, asking her mum not to film her.

The star also shared a picture Bologna’s central square, Piazza Maggiore, which their home opens up on, looking eerily empty as locals stay indoors.

She captioned the post: ‘Since I moved to Bologna last January, I have never seen the main piazza so empty. On a Tuesday at 1.30… there is no panic here; the shelves are stocked, but the restaurants are empty and the streets are quiet.’

Kate’s update comes after she was trapped in Venice last week with husband Peter Allen Lewis, during a romantic Carnival trip without their four children.

The couple traveled 150km to Venice for the Carnival celebrations, before parts of the city were put into lockdown, leaving them unsure how to get home.

Speaking to Hughesy and Ed last Monday, Kate revealed that the streets and canals of Venice were eerily empty amid the health crisis.

‘Walking through Venice… it was like a ghost town last night, even though there were still Carnival events on during the day. The news broke yesterday that they were cancelling Carnival today and tomorrow. That’s huge news.’

Kate made light of the situation by joking that the lockdown was a good excuse to extend her Venetian holiday.

‘Peter and I were like, “Hang on a minute, if we get quarantined in Venice, our four children are at home with a babysitter in Bologna. Does that mean we get two weeks of holidays?”‘

However, this didn’t happen, as Kate explained that she’d managed to book train tickets out of Venice for herself and her husband.

The coronavirus has killed 79 people in Italy so far, all aged between 63 and 95 with underlying serious illnesses, according to The Guardian on Wednesday.

More than 2,500 people are said to have been infected across the country, with over 90,000 reported cases around the world.

Kate and Peter relocated to Italy with their four children, Lewis, Sunday, Artie and Jan, in January 2019 for what was supposed to be a ‘gap year.’ They have since extended their stay for another 12 months.
