In December, Emily shared an image of her mum and her husband Sebastian Bear-McClard, before revealing Kathleen’s mystery illness.

‘I don’t generally like to get too personal on here and I’m far from having s**t figured out but these were some of the notes I scribbled down on New Year’s Eve…

‘I wanted to share them and a little piece of my story in case they might make any of you feel less alone in the anxiety or confusion or fear you could be experiencing right now. (& yes quite was meant to be quiet!)’.

Alongside the striking image and the impassioned quote, she then shared her handwritten list of lessons.

Her words read: ‘Things I learned in 2019. True satisfaction comes after quite patient hard work // You can’t control other people’s perceptions so do not let their perceptions dictate your life or who you are //…

‘Your feelings are always justified and should be honoured. That doesn’t mean they are real // The things that other people see are successes will not always be the same as the things that actually make you happy //…

Upsetting: She confessed to the difficult times she faced through the year

‘Be curious about yourself and other people rather than judgemental // Loving means giving up control. This is hard, you can receive love, this is how you can give it // The world is completely unfair but that is no excuse //…

‘Telling your story is liberating // Never be afraid to ask questions. There is no such thing as dumb people vs. smart people, just those who are willing to be curious and those who are not //…

‘No matter how much you love them, protecting people from how they’ve hurt you will always be at great cost to yourself // Patience is a beautiful meditation //…

‘Laughing at yourself is everything // Being truly present takes diligence and care // The people in your life who love you are a wonderful gift, treat them as such // Life goes by too quickly to be afraid of making mistakes’.
