How to Get Away With Murder series finale reveals the final shocking twists

ABC’s How to Get Away With Murder ended its thrilling six-season run on Thursday night, as fans finally learned the fates of Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) and Wes Gibbins (Alfred Enoch).

Earlier in the final season, Annalise’s funeral was shown, and Wes, who was killed off in Season 4, was shown at the funeral, leaving fans wondering if he’s really been alive this whole time.

While Annalise’s death was actually confirmed in the finale, it was in a much different way than many fans expected.

Before the reveal of the true nature of Annalise’s funeral, her murder trial was wrapping up, with the surprising twist that Nate (Billy Brown) actually came through and lied on the stand for Annalise, testifying that Hannah (Marcia Gay Harden) framed him for Sam’s murder, and not Annalise, who actually did frame him.

While the jury deliberates, Tegan (Amirah Vann) finally admits that she’s in love with Annalise, though Annalise doesn’t think she can give her the love she deserves.

The verdict comes back not guilty, but there is still a few notable deaths, right on the courthouse steps after the verdict.

After Frank (Charlie Weber) learned Governor Birkhead (Laura Innes) was responsible for Hannah’s death, he shot and killed her on the courthouse steps.

Frank was shot and killed by the Governor’s head of security, Bonnie (Liza Weil), but she was also shot and killed in the hail of gunfire, despite Annalise’s best efforts to revive her.

The finale also revealed that Michaela (Aja Naomi King) took a plea deal and got no jail time, but she lost everyone important in her life in the process, while Connor (Jack Falahee) didn’t take a deal and ended up serving five years in prison.

After Annalise’s funeral was teased all season, some fans speculated that she actually faked her own death to escape her crimes, but that was not the case.

It was revealed to be Annalise Keating’s actual funeral, though it took place several years later, with Keating living a full life after her acquittal, with the photo teased throughout the season at the funeral seen next to her as an older woman.

The mysterious presence of Wes was also explained in a similarly twisty fashion, with it revealed that Alfred Enoch was not actually playing Wes, but Christopher, the now-adult son of Wes and Laurel, attending the funeral with his elderly mother.

During other future scenes, Michaela is seen being sworn in as a judge and Nate has opened up the Lahey Justice Center.

At Annalise’s funeral, the eulogy was delivered by Eve (Famke Janssen), as a montage of Annalise’s life was shown.

In the final scene, adult Christopher is revealed to be a law professor at Middleston, teaching Annalise’s class, Criminal Law 101, though he added, ‘or as my mentor liked to call it, How to Get Away With Murder” as the series came to a close.
