How Candice Warner’s life spiralled into chaos after her 2007 ‘toilet tryst’

SAS Australia’s Candice Warner has spoken bravely about how she contemplated suicide following her ‘toilet tryst’ scandal with Sonny Bill Williams in 2007.

The mother of three, 35, revealed on Triple M’s Moonman in the Morning on Thursday that she felt completely lost with no one to turn to for help.

‘I remember just driving and driving around and not knowing where I was going in life. It got so bad,’ she told radio host Lawrence Mooney.

‘I remember not knowing where I was going in life’: Candice Warner has spoken bravely about how she contemplated suicide following her ‘toilet tryst’ with Sonny Bill Williams in 2007

More than 13 years ago, Candice – who was single at the time – was photographed in a bathroom stall with NRL star Sonny Bill at the Clovelly Hotel in Sydney.

When asked if she ever thought about suicide at the height of the media circus, the former Ironwoman said: ‘Most definitely, I’d had enough.’

‘I saw the pain I had caused my family, I’m very close to my family, it was relentless in so many ways. I was the worst person, I was disgusting. I was every name,’ she said.

With all the public attention on her, she felt like she ‘couldn’t cop it anymore. No matter what I did, I was always shamed.’

Candice continued: ‘I got to the point where I thought I either commit suicide, I take my own life, or I just turn my life around.’

She revealed that she was ‘very close’ to taking her own life, before calling her brother who helped her.

Candice admitted that while she didn’t think she would have ‘followed through with the action’, the very fact she was even considering suicide was a wake-up call.

She explained that from that dark place, she made the decision to focus on being a ‘serious athlete’ by leaving Sydney for Western Australia.

‘I needed to give my parents and my family some space. I needed to just get away from everything,’ she added.
