Holly Willoughby and David Beckham lead the home hair makeovers during coronavirus lockdown

Holly Willoughby and David Beckham have led the slew of stars doing DIY hair makeovers during the coronavirus lockdown. 

A whole host of celebrities have taken matters into their own hands after being deprived of their weekly blow-dries and access to the world’s best hair stylists.

With the government’s advice to stay at home, Holly, 39, was among the first to do touch-up her brown roots, while David, 44, shaved off his hair completely.  

Holly revealed she has always dyed her own hair and her glossy blonde tresses are the result of a box dye during an Instagram tutorial.

The TV presenter took to the social media app to post a step-by-step tutorial of how she manages to keep her hair platinum blond during lockdown.

Holly anticipated people would question how she managed to get her locks dyed during lockdown, while all hairdressers have been forced to shut down.   

The mother-of-three joked she knew people would tell her she was ‘doing it wrong’, however she insisted it’s the way she always does her own hair.

Holly admitted to ‘occasionally’ going to the salon for highlights to break it up, however ‘nine times out of ten’ she will dye it herself at home. 

Revealing the impressive finished product once she had finished, Holly exclaimed: ‘No roots, no disasters.’

David joined legions of men across the country and shaved his head as he struggled without a barber.

The former footballer initially hid his new do under a cap while having dinner with his family before taking to Instagram to debut the look.

David joked it ‘had to be done’ as he shared a black and white selfie while lounging on the sofa.

He has since hid his bald head under an array of different flat caps and beanies.  

Denise Van Outen, 45, asked her boyfriend Eddie Boxshall to do her roots, while Kelly Brook gave boyfriend Jeremy Parisi’s hair a trim on Tuesday, after nearly a month in lockdown. 

The Loose Women presenter captured the moment, which showed a shirtless Eddie diligently putting the hair paste into Denise’s hair, under the supervision of her hair stylist whom they were FaceTiming. 

Denise wrote: ‘When you let your other half do your roots during lockdown. @eddieboxshall under the supervision of @alfieoneill_ ❤️ #isolationcreation #stayhome #staysafe #savelives’.

Jeremy also appeared pleased with Kelly’s handywork after she worked her magic with some hair clippers. 

Piers Morgan put his faith in wife Celia Walden on Monday evening by reluctantly agreeing to let her cut his hair as they self-quarantine at their London home.

With all hair salons currently closed as Great Britain enters a fourth week of government mandated lockdown in the fight against coronavirus COVID-19, Piers allowed Celia to give him a much-needed trim.

Taking to Instagram, the Good Morning Britain presenter, 55, looked somewhat apprehensive as he sat with a towel covering his shoulders while his wife cheerfully went to work with a pair of scissors. 

Captioning the shot, he wrote: ‘The words “Don’t worry, I’ve watched a YouTube video…” do not fill me with confidence.. #HairHorror.’ 

Kerry Katona, meanwhile, opted for a complete hair transformation last Wednesday as she dyed her hair bright pink.

The former Atomic Kitten star, 39, looked incredible as she debuted her new fuchsia locks, dyed by her eldest child, daughter Molly, 18.

The formerly blonde-haired star also posed up with her son Max, 11, who showed off his own bubblegum pink locks in a sweet snap.  

She wrote on Instagram: ‘Loving Max’s Quarantine hair colour!! I love it so much I’m doing it!’, before adding later ‘Got to say I’m defo loving being pink.’

Sophie Rundle unveiled her new pink hair on Monday after dying it in ‘on a whim’ while in quarantine, admitting she thought no one would see her.

The Peaky Blinders actress, 31, appeared on This Morning alongside co-star Mirren Mack (who plays Kaia in The Nest) via video link from her home to talk about the finale of The Nest. 

After pointing out the new colour of her hair, Eamonn Holmes asked: ‘Was it a home kit? And did it go right or did it go wrong?’ 

Sophie admitted: ‘It was such a whim. 

‘And I was like “I’m in quarantine, no one’s gonna see me, I’ll dye my hair pink” and then I remembered that I’d agreed to come on national breakfast television, so…’

 ‘It’s lovely! It’s really lovely! We love it!’ insisted Eamonn as Sophie and Mirren burst into laughter.   

Paddy McGuinness made the most of his free time by bleaching his locks on Tuesday and shared the dramatic new style on Instagram. 

The presenter, 46, made a hilarious comparison to Eminem who is known for his peroxide blond buzz cut. 

Alongside three snaps, Paddy penned: ‘Not so Slim Shady! I’ll be posting a video of me actually doing the bleaching soon, along with the products I used from first prep to the finished article! 

‘I’ve always thought about doing it but never had long enough off work, or the balls, to give it a whirl. Thank you also to the good folks from Bleach London

‘I bought a couple of boxes and asked them what to do? It was relatively easy. Vid coming soon!’

Mark Wright went one step further during his quarantine as he followed Beckham’s lead and shaved his head.

The former TOWIE star, 33, took to his social media to share snaps of his new look, before challenging Olly Murs, his cousin Elliott, sports promoter Eddie Hearn and actor Mario Lopez to do the same.  

Mark shared a short video before he cut off his hair as he held the clippers to his locks and shouted in anticipation, before showing of his chopped hair.

Asking fans to suggest people to be nominated, Mark said: ‘So I’ve obviously cut the barnet for quarantine life, but the question is if you’re sent a challenge during this period you have to accept it, am I right in thinking that? 

‘So I’m going to challenge a couple of people to shave their nuts, not them nuts, that nut [indicating his head], though you can shave them too.

‘Stay there I’ve got a couple few people in mind, but tell me who you should think I should challenge to do this quarantine challenge.’

Love Island’s Ovie Soko, 29, also unveiled his new shaved head on Tuesday, leaving pal Amber Gill worried, fans in meltdown and Ian Wright claiming him as his nephew. 

The basketball player revealed he had decided to get rid of his tight waves when he uploaded the snap to social media. 

The reality star began trending almost instantly due to the reaction from his followers.

James Arthur was another to shave his hair off completely and vowed to give £5,000 to help the NHS last week. 

The X Factor winner, 32, revealed the results of his haircut on Instagram on Sunday and joked he’s so ‘happy hats were invented.’ 

James revealed to his followers that he had initially aimed for ‘a little trim up’, however, it didn’t go according to plan and in a ‘sheer moment of madness’, he decided to shave the whole thing off.

He also paid tribute to the NHS and wished his fans ‘peace and love’. 

Stacey Solomon revealed boyfriend Joe Swash had shaved off his beard into a handlebar moustache earlier this week. 

The Loose Women panellist, 30, took to Instagram to share a video of her presenter beau, 38, as she jokingly likened his facial hair to Tiger King’s Joe Exotic.  

Stacey revealed Joe decided to shave his beard after letting it grow during isolation. 

Admitting she was relieved over the decision as it ‘hurt’ to kiss, the former X Factor star was soon left shocked as her beau unveiled a new handlebar moustache.  

Stacey said: ‘What the hell is that? You can’t keep that. Is it a joke or is that what you’re actually having? It’s not what you’re having. Is it real?’

To which Joe admitted: ‘Well it took me so long to grow my beard, I didn’t want to get rid of all of it.’   

Meanwhile, BBC Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis joked she and her husband are ‘not currently talking’ after her attempt to cut his hair went disastrously wrong. 

Ms Maitlis, who by her own admission worked as a ‘dreadful’ hairdresser in her teenage years, posted a photo on Twitter of her husband Mark Gwynne’s new hairstyle.

She joked that she ‘almost’ got away with the mangled attempt – but for one of her sons ‘snitching’ on her. 

In a caption above the photo of her husband pointing at his jaggedly cropped hair, Ms Maitlis wrote: ‘Yes, I did used to work in a hairdressers. No, I didn’t learn to use clippers. 

‘Yes, he did ask me to help with this against all my better instincts. No, we are not currently talking.’

Alexandra Mardell was almost unrecognisable in a snap shared on Saturday after the actress dyed her hair purple in lockdown.

Stars including Ireland Baldwin, Lottie Moss, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Cruz Beckham, Elle Fanning and Ricky Martin have also all transformed their locks during their time at home. 

Instagram has been flooded with stars unveiling their new pink look, with Ireland leading the way with her dramatic new look, as she pouted for a snap while showcasing the style. 

Clearly happy with the result, she added a caption on the shot reading: ‘I added some pink in my hair and it was my first box dye experience and i didn’t fry my hair off weeeeehooooo’.

Earlier in the week, Victoria Beckham was joining in the fun as she went from fashion designer to hairdresser on 15-year-old Cruz’s locks, as at first she gave a blonde highlights.

She captioned a snap: ‘Mums can do most things, with a little help.’ She then stepped things when she then showed off her boy’s pink-tinged hair, writing: ‘and pink too!’

Amanda Holden was also on Mummy-hairdressing duties as she transformed her eight-year-old daughter Hollie’s hair into ‘mermaid style’ locks with candy floss colouring. 

Alongside a timelapse video of the process, the Britain’s Got Talent star wrote: ‘#HRH has got #Pink #locks #down #fun #temporary #wecandothis wait till the pics at end @schwarzkopfprouk’. 

Clearly happy with her decision to go pink, Jennifer Love Hewitt wrote: ‘The smile of a girl who just did at home hot pink highlights because what else can I do right now! Thanks @limecrimemakeup these hair conditioners are easy and so fun! @nikkilee901 don’t be mad lol. I really miss you! Hey @911onfox new look for Maddie?!’ 

Love Island star Olivia Buckland was getting creative with her style as she too turned to the bottle. She penned the caption: ‘I was only a matter of time… hair boredom strikes. guys for those asking this is @shrine x’. 

Lottie Moss has been punctuating her lockdown with a candyfloss make-over as well as littering her social media accounts with smouldering, lingerie-clad snaps. 

Elle Fanning was getting in on the action, as she debuted her look with wet hair in a sexy selfie.  

Bryce Dallas Howard meanwhile was feeling playing as she took to Instagram to share a doctored snap with pink locks – yet confessed the hair was an April Fool’s prank to Jurassic Park bosses.
