Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield revealed they got a telling off from This Morning’s boss live on air on Monday, after sitting ‘too close’ together.

The presenter, 39, told viewers they had to move for the first time as they prepared to welcome guests back into the studio, with producers installing an extra long sofa.

Talking about maintaining social distancing, Holly said: ‘We just had to move for the first time’.

Phil, 58, told This Morning viewers: ‘We’ve changed the lay out of the sofa’.

Holly added: ‘We’ve got an extra bit here so we’re still distanced here, but we’ve got an extra long sofa.’

Sighing, Phil said: ‘It’s when you sit down and the director was saying “you’re too close, you’re too close, too close, too close, move right”.’

Trying to lift the mood, Holly replied: ‘It’s nice we’re on the same side, we’re getting closer. We’re on the same side now, we’re getting closer.’

But a disgruntled Phil muttered: ‘Bit by bit by bit.’

Elsewhere, Alison Hammond finally returned to the This Morning studios in London for the first time in 15 weeks.

The presenter, 45, made a statement as she encouraged social distancing by wearing a kooky hat with two-metre poles, before downing a pint of beer.

TV veteran Phillip said: ‘We have been allowed to ease some restrictions’, before Holly added: ‘That’s right, for the first time in 15 weeks, we’re finally allowed a guest in the studio. So we’ve invited the best, most entertaining woman we know.’ 

‘Sadly Beyonce wasn’t available so we settled for Alison Hammond’, the cheeky pair joked.

Sporting her quirky accessory, an elated Alison shouted ‘keep your distance’ as she entered the show. 

ITV star Holly detailed one disadvantage of the current social distancing guidelines, sharing: ‘I’ll tell you what, this is really hard because you give the best hugs. Every instinct in my body is just wanting to give you a hug right now!’

The former Big Brother star responded: ‘I know, let’s do a virtual one. It’s so good to see you.’
