The first look of the drama begins with Derrick looking numb, as he narrates: ‘Life is a road straight and narrow. Stay on the road and it will take you safely home, but make a wrong turn and you will meet the darkness.’

Within the first 18 seconds of the nearly three-minute trailer, Derrick’s life appears to fall from grace as he sports a black eye and is surrounded by police officers.

The footage, then, pans to him in bed with his wife, before they become victims of a violent robbery.

When Valerie arrives as the detective on his case, she teases her one-time lover by saying, ‘I’m certain I know you from somewhere.’

While Derrick insists they don’t in front of his spouse, he has flashbacks of their wild night together, before warning Valerie he has a ‘marriage to protect.’

‘You’re afraid I’m going to expose you to your wife?’ Valerie challenges back, before asking him a chilling question.

Upon discussing her femme fatale role to People, Swank called the experience ‘really fun’ and said ‘there are so many layers to the cat-and-mouse game these two characters get caught up in.’

‘This is a very strong woman who’s fighting for something incredibly important, but it’s coming from a basis of fear and desperation,’ she noted.

She continued: ‘Those underlying motive drivers were great to tap into as an actor.’

Fatale is set for a December 18 theatrical release after it was pushed back from July to October due to coronavirus restrictions at movie theaters.
