The track is a ska and reggae-influenced pop song with multiple references to her early career with No Doubt and her subsequent solo ventures.

The singer also makes it clear in the lyrics that she is beginning a new chapter of her career with the single.

She sings: ‘Binge on my music for days ’cause I’ve been here for years.’

The song was first announced on December 4 with a number of posts made to Stefani’s social media outlets depicting the single’s artwork, which features the singer in two separate outfits.

The left side of the image depicts the No Doubt frontwoman’s instantly recognizable 90’s look with a cropped white tank top, blue track pants, and high heeled shoes, while the right side depicts a new look for the singer, featuring short shorts, fishnets, and thigh-high boots with a black lace bra top.

The song has been compared by many critics to be reminiscent of Stefani’s past work with No Doubt, which she commented on in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

In speaking about the composition of the song, the singer felt that, after much work in the studio, stating: ‘I wanted to go back and make something that was joyful and back to my roots, where it all started.’

She also noted that her time spent quarantining with her fiancee Blake Shelton had given her time to reflect on her career, and ultimately ignited her desire to record songs that sounded like the ones from her early days as a songwriter.

‘When I get that urgency, you can’t stop me. I’m like, “I’ve got to go write songs”…And I don’t even care if anyone hears them, or if they think they suck, I’m doing it, now.’

In recent years, Stefani has kept busy with a Las Vegas residency show entitled Just A Girl; the show was situated at the Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood and ran from 2018 until this past February.

Before the show debuted, the singer released her fourth full-length album in 2017, entitled You Make It Feel Like Christmas, which was inspired by her time spent on Shelton’s ranch in Oklahoma.

The album was reissued with five extra tracks the year afterwards; In January, she released the joint single Nobody But You with Shelton, which eventually peaked at number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Stefani has also served as a coach during various seasons of the reality competition series The Voice; she will be replaced for the upcoming season by Nick Jonas.
