‘Sadly you will not be seeing us’: Gogglebox favourites Mick, 77, and Di, 74, announce they are quitting the show to self-isolate from coronavirus

Gogglebox Australia’s Mick and Di Kershaw have quit the show’s current 11th series.

They announced on Friday that they unfortunately won’t appear in any future episodes as they self-isolate from COVID-19 inside their Sydney home.

The couple made the tough decision as they’re ‘considered old people’ and most at risk from the deadly virus, and are unsure if they’ll be back for the next season.

Out: Gogglebox’s Mick, 77, and Di Kershaw (pictured), 74, announced on Friday that they’ve quit the show’s current 11th series to self-isolate from COVID-19 inside their Sydney home

In a video update on Gogglebox’s Instagram page, Di, 74, began: ‘Sadly you will not be seeing us for the remainder of series 11 as we are considered old people.

Mick, 77, added: ‘Here we are isolating ourselves from the dreaded COVID-19.’

The couple laughed that some friends had tried to convince them that they’re ‘elderly’ rather than ‘old’ – but they disagreed, saying they’re just ‘old’.

Speaking of their self-isolation so far, Mick added: ‘As you can see, we haven’t murdered each other yet. Hopefully, by the start of the next season, all of this will be behind us and you’ll be seeing us again on Gogglebox.’

Di continued: ‘This is a very, very crazy world that we live in and actually I did suggest we should have a new TV show called “Survivor: In The Home”.’

She concluded: ‘Stay well, stay happy and stay safe.’

Mick and Di are one of Gogglebox Australia’s longest standing contributors, and have appeared on all 11 seasons since the show premiered in 2015.

Prevent the spread: It's understood that Gogglebox contributors usually welcome a small crew into their homes to film each episode, which is why Mick and Di have dropped out

Mick and Di dropped out of the current season to prevent themselves coming into contact with anybody from outside of their household.

Usually cast members welcome a small crew into their homes to film each episode, who operate the cameras from another room, but this has now changed.

Last week, TV Tonight reported that ‘producers have already been nimble in using remote cameras and reduced production staff for remaining episodes.’
