Gemma Arterton is seen on-set of new show based on Nick Horby’s Funny Girl for FIRST TIME… as she wows in a blonde wig and retro dress to travel back in time to Sixties Blackpool


Gemma Arterton was spotted on-set for her new Sky Original show for the first time on Monday, where she was seen transformed into a Sixties siren. 

The former Bond girl, 35, took to the streets of Blackpool in a bleach blonde wig and retro-inspired dress as she got to work filming the show, which is a yet-unnamed adaptation of Nick Hornby’s best-selling novel Funny Girl. 

The sighting comes after shots from the currently-untitled comedy series show the talented actress, in-character as Barbara Parker, a charismatic young woman who holds the title of Miss Blackpool.

Gemma looked stunning on-set, as she was seen in costume as Barbara while sporting the time-appropriate ensemble. 

Cars from the Sixties milled around the streets while  extras were clad in costume to look straight out of the decade alongside Gemma’s flawless look. 

Joining Gemma in the Blackpool-based miniseries will be Rupert Everett as Barbara’s agent Brian Debehnam, David Threlfall as her father George, and Tom Bateman as dangerously charming actor Clive. 

Tom was seen on-set puffing a cigarette and looking suitably dashing,

Gemma said: ‘It’s a heart-warming story of an ambitious woman with a dream of making people laugh – it’s going to be something special.

‘It’s an honour to be working with such an incredible team and be reunited with my first ever director, Oliver Parker.’ 

Also joining the cast is Emily Bevans, Leo Bill and Matthew Beard, alongside previously announced Clare-Hope Ashitey, Arsher Ali and Alexa Davies. 

The Sky Original comedy drama will be available on Sky Max and streaming service NOW in 2022.
