Gary Lineker’s son has revealed how bad his coronavirus symptoms are by drinking a glass of vinegar and not tasting it.

The Match of the Day host’s eldest George lost his sense of taste and smell, an early sign of coronavirus COVID-19 among many sufferers, nearly two weeks ago.

The 28-year-old is now in self-isolation at home, from where he posted a video of himself pouring out the sour tasting condiment before topping it off with a squeeze of lemon.

Guiding followers through the process on social media, he said: ‘A little taste challenge. I think I’m on about day 12 of not being able to smell or taste anything. Get some vinegar in here, that will do. Some lemon, put that in. Here we go.’

Downing the vinegar in three quick gulps, George didn’t  flinch before screwing the lid back onto the vinegar bottle, telling fans:  ‘That’s quite strange.’

App company founder George originally posted the clip to his 88,500 Twitter followers and the 25-second video has been viewed over 129,000 times. He has since shared it with his 40,000 Instagram followers.

George tweeted: ‘Heard there’s a little taste challenge going around. As I’m on day 12 of not smelling or tasting anything, I thought I’d give it a go.’

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona striker Lineker, 59, responded by quipping: ‘Tasteless.’

The retired footballer recently admitted he will be staying at his home for the next two weeks in accordance with the UK government’s advice after George informed him that he thought that he may have contracted the potentially deadly respiratory disease.

He said: ‘In self isolation as @GeorgeLineker has symptoms. They’re not the regular ones, but complete loss of sense of taste and smell.

Odd these have not been pointed out much. Been nearly a week and has spent time at mine. I’ve been vigilant, hand washing/distancing but isolation it is.’

He continued: ‘Worth being careful if you lose your sense of taste and smell. You could unknowingly have the virus. I checked all this with a doctor before sharing the information. Stay safe.’
