Gage Edward admits he tries not to react to ex Jeff Lewis amid nasty custody battle

Gage Edward has given an update on his life amid his messy custody battle with ex Jeff Lewis, who he split with in February 2019.

In a revealing Instagram Live, Gage addressed the split for the first time and said he’s trying to take the high road in hopes to avoid influencing his daughter Monroe, three, who he shares with the Flipping Out alum.

‘I don’t ever want to put Monroe in that position,’ Gage, 35, said of protecting his daughter from the drama with Jeff.

‘I’m not going to contribute to that’: Gage Edward has opened up about his desire to protect daughter Monroe from the drama currently rumbling on between him and ex Jeff Lewis

Since their split, Jeff, 50, has made a habit of discussing the breakup and custody drama on his SiriusXM radio show despite requests from Gage to keep it private.

Gage explained, ‘She’s going to have her own experience with her other dad. I’m not going to weigh in on it and I’m not going to influence it. I’ll never put her in that spot… I look at my daughter as if she’s 13, 14, 15, on Google one night, reading. And I’m not going to contribute to that.

‘For her, I’m not going to put her in a predicament where she’s influenced by anything that I think with that relationship,’ Gage continued.

‘Because, by the way, we’re not talking 15 years. This is [going to be about] her first kid, this is her wedding, this is her first heartbreak. We have a long road ahead together – the three of us in some capacity. Or not. I’m hopeful for that in the future, but you never know.’

Gage admits that he avoids reacting to the negative things his ex says on the radio by keeping himself busy and thinking it all through.

‘It’s about distraction more than anything,’ he explained.

‘I’ve always been someone who takes a long time to respond to things and to think about my words because there’s a wake that’s leftover after you speak,

‘A lot of times that wake leaves destruction and if you’re going to cause destruction, you need to make sure that you really thought it through, because it could really hurt people.

‘So how do you cope? I distract, deflect, go to the gym, anything to think through everything and not react. Because you have to remember that there are human emotions tied to everything, so you can’t really react with the trigger.’

Initially they worked together on sharing custody of Monroe but the relationship between the exes deteriorated over time.

In January, Jeff stated publicly that he was done with mediation and planned to fight ‘to the bitter f***ing end’ in court over access to Monroe.

In February, Gage filed legal documents requesting a court award him equal shared custody of Monroe and legal support.

He is also seeking to have the little girl’s name changed from Monroe Christine Lewis to Monroe Christine Edward Lewis.

A court date has yet to be set in the case.
