Abbie Chatfield has revealed what she thinks about splitting bills on dates, admitting in no uncertain terms that she’s not a fan.
The 25-year-old former Bachelor star was asked by a fan for her opinion on bill splitting, and in several posts on Instagram Stories on Tuesday, she confessed she adheres to very strict rules.
‘My rule is whoever initiated the asking should pay! So whoever invited the other first,’ she explained.

‘Then if you get dessert or something small after it flips. So if I ask a guy to do something I always pay, then let him get dessert or vice versa!’
Abbie said this was something her mother had taught her: ‘Never make someone pay for something you’ve invited them to!’
She continued to explain her passionate opinions on the topic of bill splitting across a series of videos, also posted to her Instagram Stories.

‘I don’t know why, it makes me feel so sick. I would rather pay for every date ever than have to split a bill,’ she confessed
‘I was falling asleep and I woke up to say, I would rather die than split a bill. I would rather die than split a bill on a date,’ she said.

Abbie said she’s even paid the whole bill herself just to avoid the often awkward confrontation of splitting it.

‘There have been times that I’ve sneakily paid for dinner, purely because I feel like the person’s going to want to split it, and I’m just like, I don’t want to deal with that uncomfortability [sic],’ she explained.
‘Like, the thought of splitting a bill makes me [makes gagging noises]. Ooh, it makes me feel so uncomfortable!’
Abbie confessed her years of working as a waitress had influenced her opinions, after witnessing couples struggle to split their bill while on a date.

‘I just feel like it’s nice to be like, “I’ll get this. Next time you do it,”‘ she added.
And she said picking up the bill while on a date with a rich person is actually a ‘power move’.

‘I went on a date with a really wealthy guy once, and I was like, “It’s fine, babe!” [Whispers] It was, like, $17 ramen! But, still paid – power move.’
She said the only exception for splitting a bill is if you’re on a bad date and you want a clean break from the person at the end of the night.
‘I’ve never had a bad date but I feel like this is the only circumstance that I would split,’ she added.
