Former AFLW star Moana Hope reveals she was fat-shamed during career

‘It doesn’t matter what my body size is, all that matters is what I am doing on the footy field’: AFLW star Moana Hope says he was fat-shamed during career

She recently showed off her athletic abilities on Australian Survivor.

Last month, Moana Hope told Steph Claire Smith and Laura Henshaw on the KIC Podcast she was fat-shamed during her career as an AFLW player.

The former football star, 32, explained that despite being the same weight she had always been, she was told her she was ‘fat’.

‘I have played for an AFL club where they have actually told me I was fat and I was not,’ Moana said.

She added: ‘It does not matter what my body size is, all that matters is what I am doing on the footy field and if I am contributing, what does it matter what my body size is?’

‘Even when that particular person, who was my coach, told me I was overweight. I was actually as skinny as I had ever been and my role as a key forward is to be stronger and back then I was not even strong enough for that position.’

Moana concluded that it was ‘one person’s opinion’ and she ‘didn’t care’.

Moana previously played for Collingwood and North Melbourne in the AFLW, but took a year off as her wife Isabella Carlstrom is expecting their first child.

In June, the couple, along with Moana’s sister Vinny, appeared on The Morning Show to give an update on the experience so far.

Former Collingwood and North Melbourne AFLW player Moana said that it was a little bizarre to see Isabella go from being sick, to suddenly feeling better.

‘One minute she’s in bed and the next minute she’s saying, “let’s do something”. It’s been a rollercoaster, but it’s all worth it,’ Moana said.

Model Isabella, 27, said that she’s finally ‘feeling a lot better’ after the first trimester.

‘We’re halfway Wednesday next week, and finally out of the dark phase of the first trimester,’ Isabella said at the time.

She explained that she suffered bad migraines up to three times a week, and was very exhausted.
