COLOUR POP

Classic wardrobe staples may not sound sexy, but don’t assume this equals boring; some of the basics are fabulous right now. Take stripes: they go round and round on the fashion merry-go-round, but they’ve been given a twist with some gorgeous pops of bright colour. A world away from the traditional navy, they’ll add muchneeded cheer to any look.

CLASSIC CHIC

Breton tops are timeless classics that suit women of all ages; my mum and young daughters love to wear them as much as I do. We’re in good company. Audrey Hepburn embraced hers in the French style with cut-off capri trousers and ballet-style pumps, while the Duchess of Cambridge favours skinny jeans and loafers.

STRIPE IT RIGHT

This neon-striped, cream-coloured cashmere jumper that I’m wearing is a move away from the preppy versions and wouldn’t look out of place at a festival. While waiting for those, it will liven up the end of a dreary winter as we transition into spring. For me, it works just as well with jeans as it does dressed up here with some faux leather joggers.

BRIGHT SPARKS

Go as bright as you dare, Zara’s multi-coloured version (below) gives a lift whatever the weather, and Next’s jumper (also below) has heart detailing that hits the sweet spot. For purists, there’s always plenty of navy and white, but these rainbow styles are an update you’ll be wearing for just as many years to come.
