‘Owning our own missteps is a crucial part of changing the way the world operates,’ he continued. ‘I’m embarrassed and ashamed and I sincerely apologize to everyone who I may have hurt.’

The apology came after his wife, who he married in 2018, received comments about his past actions in a post in which she said she sometimes feels ‘so useless’ while protesting racial inequality.

‘I actually have an idea,’ BET’s Style Director Danielle Prescod responded to the model. ‘You could start by talking to your husband, a white man, who has used the n-word repeatedly in my presence.’

Prescod went on to explain that while at a party with Bear-McClard he used the slur so frequently in her presence another black woman left.

'Hurtful and abusive': It was this message from Danielle that likely triggered Sebastian's apology

Adding: ‘So much so that another black friend was so disgusted she left [the party where he said it]. Another black woman had the same exact experience.’

She went on to encourage Emily to address his behavior at home and called his actions ‘hurtful and abusive.’

‘You probably have never seen this behavior,’ Prescod wrote. ‘I would like you to address the issues in your home and then you can help us out here. I would like you to ask him what he can do differently … I mean this with the utmost sincerity. It was hurtful and abusive.’

She also used her story to call out social media activists, after #BlackOutTuesday started trending, taking over the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag with black squares instead of vital resources.

She previously took to her Instagram story with a sign she created that read: ‘Dismantle power structures of oppression.’
