EastEnders SPOILER: Sharon Watts’ plot to poison husband Ian Beale is set to go wrong

Sharon Watts’ plan to poison her husband Ian Beale could potentially go wrong before she is able to get her revenge on him.

New images released on Thursday from the forthcoming episode of the soap sees Sharon consider her options as she starts to run out of the pills she is using to make her husband (Adam Woodyatt) ill.

After being left for dead in the soap last month, EastEnders’ Christmas Day episode revealed Ian’s attackers were none other than Sharon (Letitia Dean) and lifelong rival Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden). 

The Queen Vic landlady recently tied the knot with the unpopular chip shop owner, but in an unexpected twist it was revealed she was the culprit. 

After Phil no longer wanted to be involved in her revenge plot, Sharon decided to take matters into her own hands by slowly poisoning him. 

But, her scheming may well be over soon as she was pictured holding an empty packet of poison, as Ian appears frail while sat at the kitchen table.

Though Ian doesn’t suspect a thing, Sharon’s plot could potentially unravel anyway next week as she is set to be overheard discussing the poisoning.  

Sharon has been getting revenge on Ian for months after discovering his involvement in the death of her son Denny. 

In the Christmas special, it was revealed that Sharon knew that Ian played a part in his death, as her son had left a voicemail on her mobile phone.

While on a boat trip, Denny had been locked below deck by Ian but disaster struck when the boat crashed and filled up with water, leading to Denny’s tragic death.

In scenes set to air next week, Dotty pushes her to expose Ian’s secret, and his mother Kathy begins to get concerned for his well-being, Sharon is starting to lose her control of the situation.

As the pressure continues to mount, Sharon has an incriminating phone call that sees her discuss the details of her plot.

But her blunder may well be her downfall, as a character is set to overhear her and go to Ian to tell him what she’s been doing.  

Last month, Letitia spoke about her character’s shocking actions, saying she believes that Sharon thinks ‘Ian very much deserved it’.  

Speaking about his involvement in Denny’s death, Letitia explained: ‘Well I always knew that after what happened on the boat with Denny, that secret was never going to be forgotten, especially as there are such strong feelings involved. 

‘After months of lies and leaning on her best friend whilst grieving – the one person that was there for her turned out to be the reason behind Sharon’s pain. As far as Sharon’s concerned, Ian very much deserved it. 

‘It’s something of a lucky coincidence in Sharon’s eyes that Ian’s managed to provoke half the Square into a murderous rage at the same time – that certainly took the heat off of her and Phil whilst they were plotting!’
