DWTS’ Christian Wilkins now able to brush off criticism

Christian Wilkins is stepping out of his TV journalist father Richard Wilkins’ shadow, as he competes on the current season of Dancing With The Stars.

And the 24-year-old told The Daily Telegraph’s Confidential on Monday that he’s now able to brush off criticism to do with whether his surname has helped his career.

‘If that’s people’s opinion of me then that’s their opinion of me. I’m a 6”3 flamboyant gay man with long blonde hair,’ the star said.

‘I’m very aware that not everyone’s going to like me, I’ve made peace with that fact,’ he continued.   

Christian added that he’s excited ‘to be part of a production that’s so based around positivity’ and ‘celebrates weirdness and ‘being yourself’. 

The former Channel Nine social media producer has teamed up with dance partner Lily Cornish.

He joins an all-star lineup with names including Chloe Lattanzi and Beau Ryan.

Despite having connections in the entertainment industry, Christian has always poked fun at his own ‘celebrity’ status’.   

When his role on DWTS was first announced, he wrote on Instagram: ‘You may be asking yourself, “Who is this kid? And how’d he get on @dancingon10?!” Well, I say as soon as you find out please let me know.’

Christian became a prominent fixture in Sydney’s social scene several years ago, and is known to wear flamboyant outfits on the red carpet.

He is also known for his appearance on the SBS reality show Filthy Rich and Homeless.   

Dancing With The Stars airs Sundays at 7.30pm on Channel Ten
