Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Issa Rae team up for backyard wrestling HBO show titled TRE CNT

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has a new tag team partner: Issa Rae.

The pro-wrestler-turned-Hollywood action hero, 47, and the actress/writer, 35, are joining forces with producer Dany Garcia, 51, on a new HBO series titled TRE CNT (pronounced as TRE COUNT, a play on the wrestling phrase ‘three count’) that explores the life of an aspiring professional wrestler as he makes his way up the ranks.

The series will be focused on a young Houston dock worker named Cassius Jones who has aspirations to climb into the ring, and uses inheritance money and a family home deeded to him to begin a backyard wrestling promotion, Variety reported.

Hit-maker: Both of the stars have established working relationships with HBO, as Rae has brought the feted series Insecure to the network

Cassius has the support of friends, family and neighbors with his promotion, which has a hip-hop theme.

Johnson, Garcia and Rae will produce the series under their respective production companies – Johnson and Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions and Issa Rae Productions.

Also involved in the program, according to the outlet, are producers Hiram Garcia, El Masri and Montrel McKay; and executive producer/showrunner Judah Miller.

Both of the stars have established working relationships with HBO, as Rae has brought the feted series Insecure to the network, while Johnson and Garcia, who were wed from 1997 until 2008, produced the show ballers, which wrapped up after five seasons last fall.
