Downton Abbey star Lily James goes shopping for blooms in Primrose Hill

Well, if your name’s Lily and you played Lady Rose, you have to say it with flowers! Downton Abbey star Lily James goes shopping for blooms (in aptly named Primrose Hill)

You wouldn’t have thought Lily James would be short of admirers sending her flowers.

Yet the Downton Abbey actress was spotted buying her own blooms last week, loading up with bouquets during a shopping trip near her North London home.

The 31-year-old decided to brighten her day amid rumours that her on-off romance with former Doctor Who star Matt Smith has again hit the buffers.

Reports suggested the pair have decided to stay just friends after struggling to make their relationship work.

Lily was photographed – properly masked – as she nipped to a florist during a mid-morning trip to shops in Primrose Hill, North London.

Dressed casually in cardigan, jeans and trainers, with an oversized mac to keep out the autumn chill, she stopped off at a beauty store and bookshop while waiting for her floral arrangements to be wrapped.

‘She wandered down the high street for a few minutes, browsing in the shops, and no one paid her any attention at all,’ said one observer. ‘It looked as though the flowers were top of her shopping list.’

Lily, who played Lady Rose in the hit ITV drama, split from Smith, 37, last December after a five-year romance.

It followed claims that he had grown close to actress Claire Foy, 36, his co-star in the first two series of The Crown.

Lily and Matt are thought to have got back together in May, but have apparently now called time on their romance.

‘They have gone back and forth this year trying to sort things out because they both have so much love for each other,’ according to a friend.

‘But unfortunately it just isn’t working and they have mutually decided to just close this chapter of their lives.

‘They adore each other and want to stay friends but as far as their romance goes, she has told everyone it’s over for good.’

The couple met on the set of Pride And Prejudice And Zombies in 2014 and began dating soon afterwards.

Lily went on to star in the BBC1 version of War And Peace and this year filmed an adaptation of the Daphne du Maurier classic Rebecca for Netflix.
