Back in 2017, Pearl confirmed she would not be returning to join Jodie Whittaker’s female Thirteenth Doctor in series 11.

The actress was Peter’s companion in his final series, which ended with the character travelling around galaxies with her girlfriend Heather.

‘It’s been such an amazing journey. It’s such an incredible show and it’s so well loved,’ Mackie said at the time, adding however, she would ‘never say never’ to a future appearance.

She told the Radio Times: ‘I think I need more time, to be honest. I still feel quite close to Bill. I need to miss her before I want to play her again, you know?

‘I think I need to [do that] and find a way to add to her story before wanting to go back and play her again.’
