‘I’ve got a reason to put heels and fishnets back on’: Denise Van Outen prepares for her return to Cabaret All Stars after show’s lockdown hiatus

Denise Van Outen has revealed she will be rehearsing for the return of her Cabaret show at home – by wearing her fishnets and heels in the kitchen.

The West End star, 46, said she ‘cannot wait’ to perform again after the London venue was forced to shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But after a five-month hiatus, Cabaret All Stars is welcoming back audiences and Denise said she’s excited to trade in her lockdown trainers for glamorous heels.

Back on stage: Denise Van Outen has revealed she will be rehearsing for the return of her Cabaret show at home – by wearing her fishnets and heels in the kitchen

In an interview with MailOnline, she said: ‘I’ve got to get back into my fishnets, so as soon as I had the nod I started training every day.

‘Opening my wardrobe doors and looking at all my high heels I have been thinking, when am I ever going to wear you again?

‘But now I’ve got a reason to put heels and fishnets back on.

‘I have lived in trainers in lockdown so I’m going to have a practice for the show in my heels around my kitchen.’

Cabaret All Stars reopens at Proud Embankment in London from August 7 and showcases a variety of performers including burlesque dancers, fire breathers, aerial acts, sword swallowers and magicians.

The show will be one of the first to get back to business in the city after the theatre industry has suffered a tremendous amount as a result of closures and postponement of live performances.

But Denise feels confident that the venue, which doubles up as a restaurant, has put in place enough safety measures to give spectators a night to remember.

She said: ‘I’ve been part of the Andrew Lloyd Webber shows and Cameron Mackintosh, a lot of my friends are actors and a lot of shows have been postponed or cancelled.

‘But London theatre is really suffering. Being a performer myself all you want to do is entertain.

‘I honestly thought I wouldn’t get back on stage any time soon and then I got the call to say they’ve got the setup there that we can follow all the government guidelines and do the show safely.

‘I feel safe enough to perform there so I hope people feel reassured.

‘It won’t feel too different but there will be tweaks to the night that will hopefully go unnoticed to the audience but we’re adapted to make the show work.

‘It is such a great show, I host it and I’m in it but the acts that come on because it’s a Cabaret All Stars, they are all phenomenal.’
