David Tennant delights Doctor Who fans as they spot a mini TARDIS in the back of his and wife Georgia’s garden in BBC lockdown show Staged

He became a household name in the acting world after portraying the tenth Doctor in the iconic sci-fi series Doctor Who.

And David Tennant delighted fans of the show as they spotted a mini TARDIS in the back of his garden during the BBC’s lockdown drama Staged on Wednesday.

The actor, 49, filmed the show from his home and in the first episode he was seen on the phone while sat in his garden, with the time machine clearly visible in the background.

Also starring his Good Omens co-star Michael Sheen and his wife Georgia, the show sees David and the cast portray a group of actors who are persuaded to rehearse a play they were meant to perform before lockdown over Zoom instead.

Written and directed by Simon Evans, the show also features Lucy Eaton and Anna Lundberg, while Nina Sosanya is a guest star.

As well as starring in the lead roles David and Michael are acting as executive producers for the series, and the show’s first episode aired on Wednesday while the next five episodes have been released on BBC iPlayer.

Fans were besides themselves with joy when they spotted the Doctor Who Easter Egg, and took to Twitter to revel in their delight. 

One fan spotted the memorabilia and wrote in delight: ‘Love the fact the Tennants have a tardis in their garden!! [sic].’

While another said: ‘Got very excited when I saw a tardis in David Tennant’s garden.’ 

And one added to the sentiment by gushing: ‘David Tennant HAS A TARDIS IN HIS GARDEN [sic].’

David played the role of The Doctor in the hit series from 2005 to 2010, and met wife Georgia on the show when she appeared in 2008 episode The Doctor’s Daughter.

Meanwhile Georgia’s dad Peter Davison took on the role of the titular Time Lord between 1981 and 1984. 

David and Peter appeared on screen together as the fifth and tenth incarnations of the time-travelling alien in the 2007 mini-episode Time Crash, which aired as part of Children In Need. 

The pair wed in 2011 and share children Olive, nine, Wilfred, seven, and Doris, five, and Birdie, eight months, together, while David adopted Georgia’s 18-year-old son Ty when they married.
