Courtney famously got clean in order to portray Larry’s (Woody Harrelson) fourth wife Althea Leasure, who was 17 when she met Flynt as a go-go dancer at his Hustler Club in Columbus.

The Hustler co-publisher tragically died, age 33, by accidental drowning in 1987 after a four-year battle with AIDS.

The stirring performance earned Love (born Harrison) a nomination at the 54th Golden Globe Awards for best actress in a drama, which ultimately went to Secrets & Lies star Brenda Blethyn.

Flynt also played the part of Judge Morrisey in Miloš Forman’s critically-acclaimed 1996 biopic, which grossed $43M and is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.

The People vs. Larry Flynt’s climax was his triumphant First Amendment battle at the Supreme Court in 1988 against Reverend Jerry Falwell claiming libel over a crude ad parody.

The widowed mother-of-one also has fond memories on the set since she fell for Edward Norton – who played Flynt’s busy lawyer Alan Isaacman – and they reportedly dated until 1999.

The ‘King of Smut’ was also mourned by The People vs. Larry Flynt co-screenwriter Larry Karaszewski on Wednesday.

‘Hate him, love him – Larry Flynt was one of a kind,’ the 59-year-old Golden Globe winner tweeted.

‘The events of today remind me that during Clinton’s impeachment a Flynt investigation exposed the hypocrisy of the Republicans & caused the Speaker of the House to resign. He call us chuckling “Boys, I’m working on the sequel!”‘

Courtney has spent the last 16 months in her ‘recluse London phase’ alongside her pet Pomeranian Bell.

Love told NME in November that she’s ‘recorded several new songs’ for a new solo album, and she’s also been hard at work penning her decade-in-the-works memoir.
