Coronation Street fans were cheering from their living rooms on Wednesday night, as Yasmeen Nazir finally stood up to her abusive husband Geoff.

In tense scenes, after finally seeing the truth about Geoff’s controlling behaviour, Yasmeen vowed she would never go back to him, and would be happy behind bars knowing she could never return to him.

Yasmeen was imprisoned after finally fighting back against Geoff by stabbing him with a broken wine bottle, after months of being under his control.

You tell him! Coronation Street fans were cheering from their living rooms on Wednesday night, as Yasmeen Nazir finally stood up to her abusive husband Geoff

After being contacted by Geoff through a secret mobile phone, Yasmeen debated whether to forgive her husband and take him back knowing it could lead to her release from prison.

But after weeks of being brainwashed to believe Geoff was innocent, Yasmeen finally began to see the light after being visited by one of Geoff’s former partners, who revealed she’d also been controlled and abused by him.

In tense scenes, Geoff was stunned as Yasmeen declared she wouldn’t be taking him back, and would rather spend the rest of her life behind bars than at his side.

She said: ‘I believed you, and all the time you were projecting…

‘You manipulated me and I fell for it, but I shan’t again. I will never EVER go back to you again.

‘And even if I’m found guilty it’ll be a good result, because I shan’t ever have to go bed with you, and I’m not guilty then the same.’

Furious that his abusive behaviour could be exposed, Geoff ended the scene with a chilling threat, warning he would ensure she would end up behind bars for a very long time.

Fans rushed to social media to laud Yasmeen for finally standing up to her husband, with one praising: ‘So proud of the Yasmeen storyline and so chuffed she can finally stand up to him. Go Yasmeen!’

Another added: ‘Loved #Corrie tonight. Finally Yasmeen socking it to Geoff. That wiped the smirk off his face better than any wine bottle could.

It currently remains to be seen whether Yasmeen will found guilty of attacking her husband, or whether his abuse will be revealed.

Bosses have already teased the long-running storyline may not conclude until the end of the year, especially since the number of weekly episodes the soap is airing has been halved due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While many viewers have been outraged by the hard-hitting plot, there’s no doubt they tuned in greater numbers than Corrie had seen for months, as the soap saw it’s highest figures since January 2019.

Coronation Street continues on Friday at 7:30pm on ITV.
