Charlize Theron reveals speaking with young Black daughters about racial injustice after George Floyd killing

Charlize Theron during a talk show appearance Monday revealed that she spoke with her young Black daughters about racial injustice after the killing of George Floyd.

The 44-year-old actress during a remote appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was asked by the host if she had conversations about the Black Lives Matter movement with her daughters Jackson, eight, and August, five.

‘Yeah, I think it’s important. The day I became a parent I vowed I would always tell them the truth in a way they can handle it,’ Charlize told Jimmy, 45, from her home in Los Angeles.

Charlize said she wanted her girls to know what happened to George Floyd and other Black victims of police brutality even though it would ‘make them grow up faster than they would’ve’.

‘But it’s too important a moment to not be completely transparent,’ said the Oscar-winning actress who adopted her children.

Charlize admitted that their talks was ‘heartbreaking at first’ and got emotional as she recalled trying to explain it to them.

She said her daughters responded positively by becoming ‘very active in protesting’ and made signs to join the protest against racial injustice.

She also is a producer of The Old Guard, which is based on the 2017 graphic novel of the same name by comic book writer Greg Rucka, 50, who also wrote the screenplay.

Charlize said that Greg wrote the graphic novel right after his father died and the story has the right mixture of ‘sci-fi and so much heart’.
