Carson Daly calls his wife a ‘superhero’ saying she stayed alone in the hospital before giving birth

Carson Daly has revealed he was only allowed to join his wife in hospital briefly for the birth of their fourth daughter on Thursday amid as hospitals put tight restrictions in place during the coronavirus outbreak. 

The 46-year-old called in remotely on Friday to join his Today show cohosts – who were also all videoconferencing solo – to discuss the experience and praise the bravery of his wife Siri as well as hospital staff.

He explained he was only allowed to join his wife for the birth itself; wasn’t able to support her in the early stages and had to leave immediately after the delivery.  

During the video chat, which host Hoda Kotb referred to as ‘Brady Bunch boxes,’ Carson sung the praises of Siri, 39, who he called ‘a superstar’ and ‘a superhero’ for heading into the hospital alone ahead of delivery.

‘I dropped her off at the hospital,’ Carson told his coworkers. ‘I could only join her for the birth, then I had to leave again as they are quickly trying to flip these rooms around.’

The television personality and broadcaster then went on to praise Siri’s ‘heroism,’ noting that the anxiety around being nine months pregnant in the middle of an unprecedented health crisis is a huge cause for anxiety. 

‘She’s a superstar, she’s a superhero,’ he said lovingly about his wife, but also included the staff who delivered his fourth child in his praise.

‘I wake up enamored by her and also the medical staff we dealt with last night. The work that they are doing on the front lines, you don’t believe it until you are actually there and can see it.’

The parents welcomed their daughter in the New York City area, a city currently besieged by the pandemic with virtually every hospital already reaching far beyond its capacities to care for the ill.

Daly said on Friday that he ‘woke up today really just profoundly moved’ by the experience and that his wife and new baby girl have made it safely through.

Together, Carson and Siri already have three children: 11-year-old Jackson, seven-year-old Etta, and five-year-old London. 

Carson also told his friends at Today more about their reasoning behind their little addition’s name. 

‘Her middle name is Patricia, named after my mother, who you all knew well,’ he said, referring to his late mother, who died in September 2017. ‘It would have been my mom’s birthday tomorrow, so that worked out to be quite nice.’

As for her first name: ‘We had a shortlist of names that we liked but nothing was sitting its neck out. And I thought about it and I said, “You know, this is our fourth kid. She seems like a pot of gold at the end of our family rainbow.” I told Siri, “What do you think about Goldie Patricia?” And that was it. It was just one of those things, we knew.’
