Blue Wiggle Anthony Field speaks with a croaky voice on Today show

Hitting too many high notes? Blue Wiggle Anthony Field speaks with a croaky voice during a TV interview as he reflects on the band’s 30th anniversary

Anthony Field seemed a little hoarse during an interview on the Today show on Monday while celebrating The Wiggles’ 30th anniversary.

The Blue Wiggle, 57, was discussing the group’s milestone alongside Yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins when his voice became croaky.

‘I can’t believe [it’s been 30 years]. I was 27 when we started, so doing the maths, 57! I didn’t think I will still be Wiggling,’ he said, sounding gravelly.

Is everything okay? Anthony Field (right, with Emma Watkins) seemed a little hoarse during an interview on the Today show on Monday while celebrating The Wiggles’ 30th anniversary

Anthony also revealed why the children’s group remains so successful after three decades.

‘I think the secret is just keeping it fun,’ he said.

‘Thinking about what children enjoy and, you know, colourful, all the things we have always done, and hopefully writing songs that annoy the parents for a long time.’

Anthony joined the group in 1979 alongside now-retired members Murray Cook, Greg Page and Jeff Fatt.

The trio were replaced by ‘Yellow Wiggle’ Emma, ‘Purple Wiggle’ Lachlan Gillespie and ‘Red Wiggle’ Simon Pryce.

The band’s anniversary comes after it was announced that Murray will be returning to the stage on January 23 after undergoing open-heart surgery in December.

The 60-year-old, who retired from The Wiggles in 2012, will perform with his band The Soul Movers in Marrickville, in Sydney’s inner-west.

‘I’m really looking forward to it. It’s a little bit daunting but I’m thrilled to get on stage and see the crowd,’ Murray told The Sunday Telegraph.

He was released from St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney last month after undergoing surgery in which a faulty aortic valve was replaced.
