Sonia Kruger reveals why she DIDN’T think the revamped Big Brother would be a success – ahead of the show’s blockbuster finale this week

Channel Seven just renewed Big Brother for a second season.

And now host Sonia Kruger has revealed why she thought the revamped show would fail to find an audience.

The 54-year-old told TV Tonight she was sceptical that the series would find success with all competition from streaming services.

Uncertain: Sonia Kruger, 54, (pictured) revealed why she didn’t think the revamped Big Brother would be a success while speaking to TV Tonight on Tuesday

’20 years ago we would watch someone sitting around having a chat. We didn’t have as many options as we have now in terms of viewing,’ she said.

The blonde presenter added that she wasn’t sure about the show being prerecorded with prior seasons shown live or recorded within a 24-hour period.

‘I was skeptical along with everybody else about the fact that it wasn’t going to be live and it was going to be prerecorded. How would the purists accept that?’

She continued: ‘In fact it has given them the ability to finesse every episode so that it has an outcome with an eviction.’

Sonia finished by saying she thought given that the show was getting a new format that the network should have brought someone new in to host it.

She has spoken before about how hosting the revamped series was never part of her plan while defecting from the Nine Network to Channel Seven.

Speaking to the Not Here to Make Friends podcast in June, she confessed she had been ‘sceptical’ about her new role at first.

She hadn’t even considered hosting the show when she switched networks in November because she had already fronted Nine’s version from 2012 to 2014.

Sonia said she had found herself in a ‘comfort zone’ at Nine, and only left the network because she ‘had an opportunity to do new things’ at Seven.

‘Big Brother wasn’t one of them,’ she confessed.

The Strictly Ballroom star had been brought over to Seven to host the Olympics, but the event was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

She had also been lined-up to host competitive mini golfing series Holey Moly, before production in the U.S. was axed due to COVID-19.

Furthermore, there had been plans for her to be a judge on Australia’s Got Talent.

It comes amid news the show has been picked up for a season season, according to a report in TV Blackbox in June.

The filming for the new season will take place between October and December, with pre-production kicking-off in August.

Big Brother continues on Channel Seven, Wednesday, 7.30pm.
