BGT: First look at wild and wacky auditions ahead of Easter air date

Britain’s Got Talent have revealed a first look at their long-awaited auditions, as they confirmed the show would return to screens on Easter Saturday.

The preview features a montage of some of the show’s wackiest auditions yet, which were filmed earlier this year before the coronavirus pandemic.

Among the highlights are Simon Cowell stunned by a dancing lobster, David Walliams threatening to ‘throw up his lasagne,’ and hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly eagerly hitting their Golden Buzzer.

Epic: Britain’s Got Talent have revealed a first look at their long-awaited auditions, as they confirmed the show would return to screens on Easter Saturday

The trailer is played over the Andy Williams classic When You’re Smiling, as BGT hopes to lift the nation’s spirits during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Kicking off with some sparkly air stewardesses asking whether the judges were ready for takeoff, Amanda Holden declared: ‘Yes baby!’

As the trailer showed a jaw-dropping montage of acts, including dance troupes, daredevils, and a man with a tiny flute.

Hosts Ant and Dec watch from the side of the stage as ever, and are quick to have a go at the pipe instrument which left Simon incredulous.

As one act walks across the stage on their hands and feet in a display that could have been plucked from The Exorcist, David says: ‘I think I’m gonna throw up my lasagne.’

Along with more weird and wonderful acts, one certainly seems to catch Simon’s eye, as he turns to the audience to say: ‘How amazing was that?’

One performer seems to get the judges dancing, while another leaves Ant and Dec somewhat shaken with their explosive audition.

While plenty of other acts seem to be taking inspiration from Star Wars, with a dancing Princess Leia and Chewbacca, another appears to embrace the BGT man himself Simon, with a puppet of the music mogul.

The trailer also shares glimpses of Ant and Dec awarding their Golden Buzzer to a thunderous reaction from the crowd.

Simon declares: ‘You are what the world has been waiting for,’ and the trailer comes to an end with the judges Simon, David, Amanda and Alesha Dixon rising to their feet for one act.

Ant and Dec seem equally wowed by one audition, as they applaud him before adding: ‘That is how you do it!’

That's it! Alesha shares her own animated reaction to the auditions, as it remains to be seen which acts will be given the coveted Golden Buzzer

The new series will return to screens on Saturday 11th April, after ITV confirmed they would still air the auditions as planned.

It was confirmed last month that due to the COVID-19 lockdown, the live shows – which usually air in late May – would be postponed until later this year.

An official statement from ITV read: ‘We have been working with the brilliant production teams at Thames and Syco to find a way of making the live finals work, which were due to be broadcast at the end of May…

‘However, in light of the latest government health guidelines and in line with our priority of safeguarding the wellbeing of everyone involved in our programmes, production of the live shows cannot go ahead as planned…

‘The live finals will therefore be broadcast later in the year.’
