Australian Survivor gets $3.9million government funding to start filming new season in regional Queensland after it was postponed during the pandemic

Production on a new season of Australian Survivor is finally set to resume after filming was postponed last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Mumbrella, the reality show just received $3.9 million in Federal Government funding. 

The new season will be filmed in Queensland, in the small regional town of Cloncurry.

Communications and Arts Minister Paul Fletcher said that production will inject $29million into the regional economy and create 150 jobs.

‘Local production of the show’s sixth season will support businesses in regional Queensland and create 150 employment opportunities for local crew, providing a major boost to the Australian economy,’ he said.

The official Australian Survivor social media accounts also announced the good news on Thursday.

‘Survivors ready? This year we’ll be tackling a new kind of setting!’ read the announcement. 

‘Swapping the sea breeze, cold sand and palm trees for the vast outback of northwest Queensland, our castaways will need to be prepared for a unique set of challenges in Cloncurry,’ it continued.  

It also promised that the new season was ‘coming soon’.

According to Channel 10, ‘there will be bigger challenges and a different set of skills put to our castaways to the ultimate test’.

The last season of the show to air was an All Stars version, which wrapped in October, 2019.

It was won by male model David Genat, who will soon be seen back on screen in The Celebrity Apprentice.
