Australian Ninja Warrior fans complain that the show is ‘overproduced’ now

‘It’s like The Voice on an obstacle course!’ Australian Ninja Warrior fans complain that the show is ‘overproduced’ now and features too many sob stories

Australian Ninja Warrior returned this week for a new season.

And while it’s already become a huge hit with fans, some disgruntled viewers have accused the series of becoming too ‘overproduced’ now.

One on Reddit singled out the Channel Nine show for putting too much focus on sob stories.

Divided: The new season of Australian Ninja Warrior has divided some viewers, with some enjoying the ‘sob stories’ on the show while others would prefer to see less of it

‘Is it just me or has this show been overproduced to the point that it’s basically The Voice on an obstacle course?’ they wrote.

‘It used to be great action, now each season feels like more time is spent on building personalities and attempting to force emotional investment with peoples stories rather than focusing on the course itself,’ they continued.

‘Some of the people who run the course look more like Instagram influencers the producers have headhunted to build an audience rather than people who’ve spent a year training for the show.’

One Ninja Warrior viewer responded to the post, writing: ‘They did the same thing Shark Tank… it used to be about great ideas… now it’s just sob stories…’

Another added: ‘The main reason I won’t watch any of these shows is the sob stories, honestly, I don’t give a f**k, we’ve all got stories to tell, just get to the singing or jumping or whatever the f**k this show is spose to be about.’

However, the feedback wasn’t all negative, with many fans claiming that they love hearing powerful and inspiring personal stories from the contestants.

After amputee Mark Daniels competed, one viewer wrote: ‘A true inspiration to everyone. Well done.’

Another added: ‘What a absolute inspiration he is to people losing a limb, coming to terms with that and then coming out with the determination he has, having that disadvantage!

‘He shows us all how you can overcome it and not only that, but you can climb all obstacles despite life’s adversities.’

Australian Ninja Warrior is currently airing on Channel Nine.
