Austin Butler takes a break from filming Elvis biopic as he cosies up to co-star Olivia DeJonge

Filming is well under way for Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic after the coronavirus pandemic halted production on the project back in March.

But leading man Austin Butler took a break from his shooting schedule on Sunday to spend quality time with his co-star Olivia DeJonge on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

The 29-year-old ex-boyfriend of actress Vanessa Hudgens continued to fuel dating rumours with the stunning Australian star, 22, during their sun-drenched outing.

Austin is playing the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll himself in the upcoming movie while Olivia is playing his wife, Priscilla Presley.

The pair looked determined to make the most of their downtime as they hit the beach together.

Austin wore a pair of black boardshorts as he soaked up the sunshine with Olivia right beside him.

Olivia, who has starred in Netflix’s mystery series The Society and took on the lead in M. Night Shyamalan’s The Visit, nailed her summer style in a white playsuit.

Rumours that Austin and Olivia were dating first emerged in January when they were spotted looking cosy at a Melbourne movie theatre.

Only a month prior, Austin had split from High School Musical star Vanessa, 31, after nine months of dating.

Australian actor Luke Bracey will also join Austin and Olivia in the movie, playing Elvis’ friend Jerry Schilling.

Tom Hanks will star as Elvis’ notorious manager, Colonel Tom Parker, and Maggie Gyllenhaal will play his mother, Gladys Presley.

Filming for the biopic resumed in September, six months after it was forced to close after Tom, 64, and his wife, Rita Wilson, tested positive for the coronavirus.

In a statement in September, Australian director Baz, 57, said he was looking forward to finally getting back to work on the blockbuster.

‘We’re back to, as Elvis liked to say, “taking care of business!”‘ he began.

‘It is a real privilege in this unprecedented global moment that Tom Hanks has been able to return to Australia to join Austin Butler and all of our extraordinary cast and crew to commence production on “Elvis”.

‘I cannot emphasise enough how lucky we feel in the current climate that the state of Queensland, and Queenslanders in general, have been so supportive of this film.’
