A distrubing video shows the moment an armed thief pointed a gun directly at a McDonald’s worker in North Philadelphia and pulled the entire cash register through its drive-through window.

A man wearing a balaclava and a blue hoodie leaped from the door of a red SUV and through the window with a pistol in his right hand after ordering food.

Four suspects were allegedly in the car, which pulled up to the fast food drive-through at around 3.25am on November 4, Philadelphia police said.

Surveillance footage recorded from inside the McDonald’s and looking directly at the drive-through window shows the various stages of the robbery.

The suspect, who is accompanied by three others in the car, gets out before lunging through the window brandishing a black pistol.

Although the footage released does not contain any audio, police said that the thief shouted: ‘Give me the money.’

When a frightened employee working at the window takes a step back the thief ripped a monitor from on top of the cash register and knocked it to the floor.

The suspect then grabs the entire register with both hands, despite the fact that he was holding a pistol in his right, before pulling it through the window ripping out various cables.

He then jumped back into the red car, which flees the McDonald’s on 4163 Whitaker Avenue in North Philadelphia. Police said they were unsure in which direction the group fled.

The Philadelphia Police Department is asking for help identifying the suspect.

‘It’s scary for the workers, they’re just trying to complete their shift and an honest day’s pay and unfortunately, we have some bad people out there,’ said Captain of East Detectives Matthew James to WPVI.

McDonald’s franchisee Ken Youngblood said in a statement: ‘Our top priority is always the safety and well-being of our customers and employees at our restaurants and we are cooperating with law enforcement in their ongoing investigation.’

The robbery occurred amid rising crime rates in Philadelphia and the impeachment of its DA Larry Krasner.

He faces a senate trial and possible removal from office after the Republican-led Pennsylvania state House voted to impeach him last Wednesday.

The decision came over progressive policies he has enacted amid rising crime in the city, in which there have been more than 400 fatal shootings this year.

The move toward removing Krasner began months ago and picked up momentum in the weeks before the midterm elections, with Republicans introducing the impeachment resolution late last month.
