Ant and Dec share throwback snap as they do the How It Started challenge ahead of I’m A Celebrity

They’re preparing for the new series of I’m A Celebrity, which this year takes place in North Wales.

And Ant and Dec gave fans a lookback to the beginning of their career as they shared a throwback snap as part of the How It Started…How’s It’s Going challenge on Monday.

The presenters, 44 and 45 respectively, took to Twitter, showing one image of their younger days starring in Byker Grove alongside a present day snap of them fronting I’m A Celebrity.

Dec joined the children’s television show in 1989, followed by Ant a year later.

They both left in 1994 to launch a music career as PJ & Duncan, before moving on to TV presenting some years later.

They’ve since gone on to host some of the biggest shows on TV, including Britain’s Got Talent, Saturday Night Takeaway and of course I’m A Celebrity.

It comes as ITV dropped the first teaser for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2020 on Saturday, with a very different look to usual proceedings.

While hosts Ant & Dec are often seen in the first trailer of the upcoming series stalking through the outback in jungle garb, there’s none of that this year, as the show will take place in Wales on account of COVID-19.

The duo, however, haven’t grasped this in the hilarious new trailer.

As a black cab pulls up in the middle of nowhere in the Welsh countryside, Ant & Dec step out of it.

Still dressed in explorer ensembles, Ant remarks, as he steps out of the cab: ‘Ah it’s great to be back Down Under.’

Standing in a large cowpat, he adds: ‘I would hate to see the kangaroo who left that!’

‘Wow that was quick,’ says Dec as he pulls off a pink eye mask. ‘I must have slept through the whole flight.’

‘Don’t spend it all at once!’ says Ant as he pays the cabbie – in dingo dollars.

Dec consults an I’m A Celebrity map of Australia. ‘This place looks nothing like my map,’ he says.

‘How many more times. Australia is upside down!’ says Ant exasperated as he turns the map the wrong way up.

‘Of course, it is. I’m such an idiot. Isn’t that right Mr Kangaroo,’ says Dec – as the show hosts walk past a signpost towards ‘The Castle’ and the camera pans across the beautiful Welsh countryside.

The series will take place at Gwrych Castle in North Wales rather than its usual New South Wales location Down Under. The promo was filmed on location in Llandovery, Carmarthenshire.

It’s been claimed that show bosses are holding talks behind-the-scenes regarding what happens if lockdown restrictions change once again, while the series is mid-production.

‘It has been a huge concern to the casting team as well as producers,’ a source told The Mirror. ‘The possibility of postponing the series and rescheduling to early next year was given due consideration.

‘But rescheduling isn’t a viable option as the casting involves set dates in contracts for talent.

‘A contingency plan is being put into place but it’s unlikely they will be able to postpone to 2021. In the worst-case scenario this year’s series will have to be cancelled.’

MailOnline has approached reps for comment.

It was reported this week that the endurance reality show could be filmed in the UK for another two years if the pandemic restrictions remain in place.

Producers have had ‘informal’ talks with the castle’s owners about availability at the location until 2022 in case the show can’t move back to Oz, reported The Sun.

It is thought that producers are worried how the show will be impacted if travel restrictions are still in place on the team relocating to Australia.

Production could also be hit by any local lockdowns in Murwillumbah or guidelines brought in back home in the UK.

A source told the publication: ‘There is a very real chance that the show will be in the UK again next year, so producers are trying to get their ducks in a row and have a plan B like this time around.

‘They have informally spoken to the owners of the castle and asked about its availability over the next two years — so into 2022.

‘They are hopeful that the change of scenery will be a hit with viewers — and that could make it a shame to go rushing back to Australia unless it is absolutely necessary.’

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! will start on ITV in November.
