Ant and Dec recreate old promo shot in Mexican sombreros ahead of Saturday Night Takeaway return

Ant and Dec gave fans a taster of the upcoming new series of Saturday Night Takeaway by recreating an old promo shot from 2002.

The Geordie duo, both 45, posed in Mexican sombreros during a break in filming to re-make Dec’s ‘least favourite promo shot’ of Saturday Night Takeaway ahead of its return to screens.

In a clip posted to their Instagram on Monday, the presenting duo look dressed for their holidays, in loud Hawaiian Shirts as Dec brandished some maracas.

In the skit, Ant begins complaining about the noise, joking: ‘See what I mean, it’s constant man. Imagine going on holidays with him.

‘This is what he’s like. Morning noon and night. Maracas, maracas, maracas, it drives us crackers!’

As Dec continues to shake the maracas, Ant adds: ‘You’re missing the sombrero’, and walks off camera, coming back with the traditional Mexican hat.

History: Dec explained the story behind the sombrero, saying: 'In the promo shot we did in 2002, I had... a sombrero but it is my least favourite promo shot of Saturday Night Takeaway'

Ant comes back with two sombreros and the funny duo pose in the hats with Dec putting his two thumbs up – just like the picture taken in 2002.

They captioned the post: ‘Oi, mind me maracas! Bit of silly filming for the new @itvtakeaway , back on your tellies this Saturday on @itv and @wearestv1 . Less than one week to go!’

Last year’s Saturday Night Takeaway was cut short as the country was plunged into its first COVID-19 lockdown, with the pair filming one episode without an audience, and turning the final two shows into compilations recorded from home.

Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway will return on February 20 at 7pm on ITV.
