Ex radio breakfast show host Angus O’Loughlin has shared a little-known hack about ceiling fans.

The 34-year-old Australian podcaster was mind blown after discovering ceiling fans have two different modes depending on the season.

In an Instagram video, Angus investigates above a fan to find a secret summer and winter switch that changes the direction of the spin.

The ‘summer mode’ pushes the air down to keep you cool, while the ‘winter mode’ pushes warm air up to distribute around the room and keep you warm.

‘I bet you didn’t know this about your ceiling fan,’ he wrote online.

‘Your ceiling fan has a winter and summer mode and with the flick of a button, the reverse happens for the spin cycle.

‘In the winter, the reverse happens and of course hot air rises which means it distributes all of the air above to help warm you up,’ Angus continued.
