Singer Amy Grant undergoes an open heart surgery to fix a rare condition: ‘It could not have gone better’

Amy Grant underwent an open-heart surgery to fix a rare condition on Wednesday.

‘Thankfully the doctor said it could not have gone better,’ the six-time Grammy winner’s rep told TODAY. ‘We’re praying for a full and easy recovery over the next few days, weeks, and months to come.’

Doctors discovered the six-time Grammy winner had a heart condition called partial anomalous pulmonary venous return (PAPVR) during a routine checkup, which she has had since birth.

Her official Facebook account let fans know the news in a post that read: ‘From Team Amy – with all that is going on in our world that needs our collective prayer, please also join us in praying for Amy this week as she has heart surgery to correct her PAPVR condition.’

Later, they shared an update thanking followers for sending ‘so many prayers’ and notified users that the singer was out of surgery.  

Team Amy added: ‘We would ask for continued prayers over the days, weeks and months to come as she makes a full recovery… xo.’

Her condition was causing one or two of her pulmonary veins to return blood to the right atrium instead of the left atrium, according to UW Health. 

Consequently, PAPVR patients can suffer from oxygen-rich blood to flow back to the lungs instead of on to the rest of the body. 

She has been married to country singer Vince Gill for 20 years and known for her hits Every Heartbeat and That’s What Love is For.

Through her career, she’s sold more than 30 million albums. 

In 2017, the mother-of-four’s daughter Millie Chapman, who she shares with ex-husband Gary Chapman, made headline for donating a kidney to her best friend. 

The hitmaker shares two more adult children Matthew, 33, and Gloria, 31, with Chapman, in addition to her 19-year-old daughter Corrina.
