Alex Trebek’s family share what they love most about the Jeopardy! host, 79, ahead of Father’s Day: ‘When we’re together I feel such joy’

In honor of Father’s Day, Alex Trebek’s wife Jean had a splendid idea – to interview their children and ask what they love most about dear old dad.

Jean, 56, took to her Instagram last week with a lovely photo of her two children with Alex – Matthew, 30, and Emily, 27, along with Alex’s adopted daughter Nicky from his first marriage.

And in the caption, Jean mentioned the article posted to her blog, which contains an abundance of positive thoughts about the septuagenarian gameshow host.

‘It feels to me like our little family was meant to be … the stars all were aligned to bring together such unique personalities which deeply support and respect each other,’ wrote Jean of her blended family.

‘What’s interesting for me to witness, is that they each have had their own unique experiences with Alex and that really reflects back different perspectives on the man I married,’ she continued. ‘When we’re together I feel such joy.’

Each of Alex’s children then chimed in about the qualities they feel that they share with Trebek, who is currently waging a battle against pancreatic cancer.

His daughter Emily, in particular, identifies that she gets some ‘Type-A’ personality traits from her dad, which mom Jean agreeing that ‘while Matthew and I are more “go with the flow” people… Emily and Alex suggest how the flow should go’.

‘My Dad and I are both pretty Type-A individuals,’ said Emily. ‘I think I got a lot of my organizational, financial and perfectionistic traits from him.’

And Nicky added, ‘I have a similar passion for organization in my household. Dad is extremely into cleanliness and organization.’

As for Matthew, he reflected that ‘I think we’re both very capable in taking care of most household repairs.’

Alex’s son also shared a charming memory that belied his dad’s eternal curiosity: ‘I really loved it when my Dad would come to all of my paintball tournaments with me… although it was a very unique sport, he still got very enthusiastic about watching and learning the game.’

And when asked what their father is good at, Nicky, who has worked behind the scenes at Jeopardy! on and off for over 30 years, was quick to respond.

‘He’s really good at his profession. The best in the business. People don’t really understand what it takes to do what he does,’ she said. ‘He is meticulous and I feel very honored to have been able to watch him behind the scenes all of these years.’

Trebek has been the host of the syndicated Jeopardy! since its revival in 1984, and is contracted to continue hosting until 2022.

And in spite of his stage IV cancer diagnosis, Alex is looking forward to being able to return to the podium once safe to do so after the coronavirus pandemic sufficiently abates.
