Alex Rodriguez reveals being really nervous for fiancee Jennifer Lopez performing at Super Bowl

Alex Rodriguez revealed Monday that watching fiancée Jennifer Lopez perform during the Super Bowl was ‘more nervous than any baseball game I’ve ever played’.

The 44-year-old former New York Yankees star during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon said he was ‘going nuts’ when Jennifer, 50, performed.

A-Rod admitted that he looked so crazy in his video of the Super Bowl halftime performance that his friends reached out to ask if he was on drugs.

His excitement was understandable, considering how long the two of them had waited for that moment.

‘For five-and-a-half or six months, she was prepping at a level… it was like she was Rocky going to go fight the Russian, Ian Drago,’ recalled Alex.

‘She was lean, she was mean, and she would start her job at two-o-clock in the afternoon, her dances, and would come home around three or four in the morning. With bruises everywhere. It was just remarkable. I was so nervous for her.’

‘You really were?’ asked Jimmy, 45.

‘Oh yeah,’ Alex replied. ‘It’s like getting ready for the Olympics. You prepare for four years for 10 seconds. She prepared for six months for six minutes, and it was her moment. And, look, I’ve played in front of 50,000 people, playoffs, World Series. I was more nervous watching her than I was any game I ever played.’

‘I was going nuts,’ he continued. ‘On game day, she woke me up at 8:15. I go, like, ”Why are you waking me up?” She goes, ”Let’s go train.” I go, ”Train? I thought we were going to just relax.” Goes to train, I wasn’t even talking with her. She was game face, I was game face. But I didn’t want to mess with her routine; it was a big day. I’m like, ”I’m here if you need me”.’

Jimmy then showed a clip of A-Rod during J-Lo’s Super Bowl performance, which saw him doing a video selfie looking excited and spinning around so she could see the reaction of the crowd.

‘You’re so proud!’ Jimmy said. ‘That’s what a fiancé does right there.’

‘Jimmy, I gotta tell you, I got so many calls and texts, and my friends are like, ‘Are you doing drugs?’ Alex admitted. ‘I was like, ”No, that was drug-free.” That was releasing the stress, I had my daughters in the background, and when she went up on that pole where she looked so great and she killed it, I was just like, ”Ahhhh!”

In a ‘Q & A-Rod’ segment, Jimmy asked Alex yes or no questions, starting with ‘Did you and Jennifer Lopez recently go on a double date with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle? If so, who paid?’

‘I signed an NDA,’ Alex responded. ‘Non-disclosure.’

‘Is it true that you and Jennifer Lopez will have a choreographed first dance at your wedding?’ Jimmy pressed on, to which Alex also answered, ‘NDA.’

‘I can’t talk about the wedding,’ he joked. ‘I want to be able to get home.’

Jimmy also showed Alex and Jennifer’s #fliptheswitch video, which saw them dancing and switching clothes on TikTok.

Alex then addressed rumors that he was buying the Mets, to which he responded, ‘if the opportunity came up, I would certainly look at’ it, since he had loved the team as a child.

Early in his career, Alex revealed, he almost joined the Boston Red Sox, but his contract was rejected by the union.

‘Once that got destroyed, Mr. George Steinbrenner came on call and he said, ”Are you willing to play third base?”,’ he remembered. ‘I said, ”For the Yankees? I’ll play anything”.’

Alex also shared with Jimmy that he had just been made chairman of Presidente beer, which he acquired with Anheuser-Busch, calling it ‘a big deal.’

‘In my country, it’s an institution,’ Alex emphasized, referring to the Dominican Republic. ‘It’s like Pepsi. It’s like Coca-Cola. It’s like the Yankees. My father’s not here anymore, but if he was, I think he’d be more proud of me being a part of Presidente beer than hitting home runs or World Series. He drank a lot of ’em.’
