13 Reasons Why star Dylan Minnette sports pink hair and matching sneakers on outing in LA

He has starred for four seasons on Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why.

And with the fourth and final season having just dropped on the streaming service, Dylan Minnette is sharing his thoughts about his character Clay Jensen and the way the series has ended.

The actor, 23, confided to EW.com that it had been ‘the most difficult season to shoot’ of all of them.

In the final installment of the teen drama series, Minnette’s character is seen in therapy, something Minette says he himself had pushed for with showrunner Bryan Yorkey.

He revealed he told Yorkey: ‘I want to take a deep dive into how deep the mental struggles that Clay deals with, how deep they go.’

He added: ‘So naturally, knowing that Brian loves to push me, I knew that it would most likely end up being an extremely difficult season, and it turns out it was.’

‘This season takes place over the course of about six months and there’s only 10 episodes, so every episode just focuses on one major event and there’s not really much filler,’ Minnette explained. ‘For that reason, there ends up being a major event for Clay in every episode. I’d open every script and be like, ‘Okay we’re doing this. I hope I can pull it off”. 

Minnette told Entertainment Tonight that he hopes fans of 13 Reasons Why find the conclusion to the series satisfying.

‘I hope that everyone feels rewarded enough in the end and feels like they got the closure they needed with these characters ’cause that’s what this season is… it’s just to finish a story that we started,’ the actor told the outlet. 

‘There’s a real positive message in the end of this season and I hope that it resonates with people and that everyone feels fulfilled and uplifted,’ he said. 

‘It’s the right time ending the show on the terms that we want to and I feel like we’re giving a sendoff to these characters and one that is deserved.’
